Maple Cake Contest Rules

                          Maple Cake Baking Contest

There are a few “rules” to keep in mind as you prepare your special maple-flavored cake:

1. The contest is open to bakers of all ages with residence in any state, but please, only one entry per entrant.

2. The cake may be one or 2 layers, with or without frosting. It should be 8 or 9 inches (round or square) or 9x13 inches rectangle. Please, no cheese cakes.

3. The entire cake needs to be homemade, including frosting. Real maple syrup or real maple sugar needs to be one of the ingredients in the cake’s recipe.

4. The complete recipe used to make the cake and frosting is to be submitted at the time of registration, along with the baker's name, address and phone number.

5. The entry is to be registered the day of the festival until 10:00 a.m. at the cake registration table – please don't leave it with a Festival volunteer at another location.

6. The bottom of a non-disposable cake plate needs to be marked with their owner's name, even if they will be picked up the day of the Festival.

7. The judging will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. Appearance, texture, and taste will be the judging criteria. The winner does not need to be present.

8. The cake becomes the property of the Top of the Common Committee, who will sell it, whole or in pieces, after the contest winners are announced.

       9. The baker will be asked for permission to include their recipe in a future “Maple Cake Contest Recipes” booklet to benefit the Top of the Common Committee’s Restoration Projects.
