| Weekly Farmers' Market on the Common"Thank You!" to all our customers and visitors and especially to our vendors. Though we had many rainy Wednesdays, our first year Market was a huge success. We are looking foward to and have begun planning for the 2010 Market! Our market has been approved for Farm to Family sales and is currently in the certification process for 3Square VT and EBT transactions. All staff, including our manager, will be volunteering their time and all proceeds of the market, after operating expenses, will again be donated to the Lunenburg Food Shelf. Vendors interested in being part of the 2010 Market are encouraged to contact our manager, Lance Roberts, at 802-892-1262 for information. Suggestions can be sent to comments@topofthecommon.org For those of you wondering how the Market came about, here's a short recap of our 2009 season. In April, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont awarded the Top of the Common Committee a mini-grant to support efforts to begin a weekly summer market on the Lunenburg Common. The Committee was pleased to be able to offer the community the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the park and to "connect" with neighbors, friends and visitors to our area while supporting our area entrepreneurs. The market was open 2-6 PM every Wednesday, rain or shine, June 3 through October 28. All the vendors carried items they had made or grown: locally grown vegetables and plants, fresh eggs, fresh baked cookies, pies, and artisan breads, maple syrup and beautiful handcrafted treasures - wooden bowls, handsewn vintage items, silver jewelry, hand carved wooden beaded necklaces, watercolors, throws, washclothes, and notecards. The TOCC and Lunenburg Historical Society also had a table containing information and sale items - calendars, postcards, past issues of The Echo, and notecards. As members were available, peeks into the Congregational Church were offered.
All proceeds of the market, after operating expenses ($200 this year), were donated to the Lunenburg Food Shelf. So, shopping at the market not only supported our local businesses but also members of our community!
